The Power Of No Summary

The Power Of No

Favorite quote from the author:
The Power Of No Summary
James Altucher’s universal advice to anyone is to choose yourself, but to do that, you first have to stop choosing others and letting them choose you.
That, naturally, includes saying no. A lot. Steve Jobs was pretty good at it. The thing is, most of us are pretty bad at it. I’ve said yes to so many things I knew the moment I heard the question, that the real answer was no, that I’ve lost count.
It’s something all of us need to get better at, which makes this book probably one of the most important ones we’ll ever come across.
Here are 3 crucial lessons to help you harness The Power Of No:
  1. Rate your regulars to say no to the wrong people.
  2. Stop doing things you don’t like, and everyone will be better off.
  3. Say no to scarcity to go beyond “glas half full”.
Ready to say no (you have to say yes this time)? Yes! Let’s do it!

Lesson 1: Rate your regulars to say no to the wrong people.

We all know ’em.
The people that every time we talk to, we walk away from and feel a little worse than before.
In an ideal world, we’d just get rid of them entirely, but often that’s not possible.
However, you can reduce the time you spend with them.
Here’s a good exercise for that.
  1. Make a list of all the people you see at least 5 times a week.
  2. Rate how the encounters with these people make you feel, 1 is the worst, 10 is the best.
With the results you instantly know who makes you feel good and who’s rather poisonous.
Start spending more time with all people rated 8 and above, and less with everyone else, especially those lower than 5.
You are the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with. And while you can’t CHANGE the people around you, you can change THE PEOPLE around you.
Step by step.
Eventually, you’ll only be left with an inner circle that helps you thrive.

Lesson 2: Stop doing things you don’t like, and everyone will be better off.

This year started out rough for me. At 52 years old, my uncle died in his sleep.
Stopping to do things we don’t like was one of the biggest lessons his death taught me.
James says the no you have to use to decline the things other people ask you to do, just because they expect you to, is your assertive no.
The problem with saying yes to work you don’t want to do is that you’ll not only start disliking the work, but also the person who asked you to do it in the first place.
Even worse, the people who give you the work will feel bad too, because they’ll see that you don’t really want to do it and feel like they’ve given you a burden.
Have you ever had a friend help you move while they actually had to study for exams?
You probably felt bad for “making them help you”, so it was a lose-lose situation.
So instead of conforming to other people’s expectations, form your own and follow your own path.

Lesson 3: Say no to scarcity to go beyond “glas half full”.

Our ancestors kept chasing food, better shelter, and human contact. The reason was that all of these things used to be scarce resources.
But none of them are any more.
So trying one more new fast food restaurant, moving to a new house with one more room or finally getting that 1,000th Facebook friend today are useless achievements – they won’t help you survive, but just make you feel stressed!
More, more, more doesn’t do us much good today, but our scarcity ridden brains give us a hard time accepting that.
One way you can do better at this is to just shift your focus to the abundance all around you.
Yes, your neighbor’s loud parties might be annoying (knows I speak from experience), but don’t focus on that, instead use this chance to see how amazing it is that we can have all the recorded music in the world playing right in our living room today and dance to it wherever we are.
When you recognize that nothing in today’s world is really scarce, you can go beyond the optimism of seeing the glass as half full and realize that there’s plenty of water, you’re not going to die of thirst and that you have lots of reasons to be thankful for both the water and the glass.
Practicing gratitude gives you a sense of calmness you won’t find elsewhere and make it a lot easier to say no, because you’ll see that what you have is plenty – trust me, I’ve been doing it for over 1,000 days.

The Power Of No Review

The Power Of No one of the most important lessons I learned in 2019. It started with saying no to bad clients, continued with saying no to family members, trips, events, and even my own ideas, so I could focus. I’m 100% sure that he who masters the power of no will master life.
That said, I haven’t read the full book yet, but I can tell you right away that the blinks don’t cut it. The set of blinks is super short, just 6 blinks in total, I can hardly believe that that does a 270 page book justice.
Nevertheless, the lessons in the blinks are solid, can’t argue with that (as you’ll hopefully agree with me, based on the above :)), but I’d still go straight for the book.

What else can you learn from the blinks?

  • What choosing life means
  • A personal example of overcoming bad relationships
  • How to figure out your path in life by going to a bookstore
  • Why you must say no to noise and what that means
  • How you can put a smile on people’s faces
  • The three elements that the power of no is derived from
  • What a gratitude diet is and how you can go on one
  • Why the alien technique is a great way to align yourself with your mission

Who would I recommend The Power Of No summary to?

The 14 year old who keeps wondering what he should do his homework for, the 21 year old college student, who feels forced to get a degree just because her parents expect it, and anyone who’s currently in a job they don’t really like.

Why Programmers Should Think like Hackers?

Programming has five main steps: the identification and definition of the problem, the planning of the solution for the problem, coding of the program, testing, and documentation.

It's a meticulous process that cannot be completed without
going through all the essential points. In all of these, security must be taken into account. As you come up with a solution to the problem and write the code for it, you need to make sure security is kept intact.

Cyber attacks are becoming more and more prevalent, and
the trend is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. As individuals, businesses, organizations, and governments become more reliant on technology, cyber-crime is expected to only grow.

Most of what people do in contemporary society involves
the internet, computers, and apps/software. It's only logical for programmers to be mindful of the security aspect of making applications or software. It's not enough for programmers to produce something that works. After all, they are competing for users to choose their software. Many consumers are already becoming aware of the need for security in the applications they are using.

Cyber-attacks have devastating consequences, from identity theft to the hundreds of thousands worth of digital assets or lost opportunities for businesses. Moreover, even when businesses don't suffer an actual attack, they can still be slapped with grueling penalties like the 183 million GBP fine earlier this year to British Airways because of compliance failures.

It greatly helps when programmers think like hackers, but unfortunately, developers don't receive much security training when doing a computer science university degree or learning through online training courses.

Companies are also aware of the importance of having
an effective security policy and well-trained staff, but they still spend most of their time and money on adding separate layers of cybersecurity defenses or recovering from cyber attacks. To solve this problem at its core, the best strategy for the companies is to train their development teams. This benefits not only the final output of the programming process but also the enthusiasm and efficiency of software developers.

Ponder on the following reasons why programmers should adopt the mindset of hackers.

1. Incomparable Tenacity

Hackers are mostly self-taught experts in defeating security
systems. They are people who have the patience to attempt as many times as possible to break a barrier that prevents them from doing or getting something.

They don't always rely on formal education when it comes to most of the techniques they use, let alone the persistent determination to break into networks or user accounts.

Hackers are simply tenacious. Generally, they learn everything
on their own. They don't rely on others to spoonfeed new knowledge to them, preferring to figure things out DIY style.

If there's something they don't know or understand, they go out of their way to learn the ropes.

Hackers may not be necessarily fond of going through the hard ways, but somehow they are compelled to take the more difficult road since most of the things they do are not taught in the classroom. The things they may want to try or do could also be illegal and frowned upon by the conventions-abiding community of programmers.

2. Doing Instead of Reading and Traditional Learning

It's important for hackers to always have the drive to try as
many things in as many ways as possible to achieve their goals. They do a lot of learning but not through books and lectures. It's more about accumulating new knowledge from their experiences.

Doing is given more priority over reading or attending lectures. As Edgar Dale's cone of experience puts it, people tend to retain 5% of the knowledge they obtain from lectures, around 10% from reading, and approximately 75% from trying out or doing the things they seek to learn.

3. Anticipating Potential Security Breaches

The stereotype that hackers always think of breaking cyber-attack defenses is not entirely false. Yes, they have many other things in mind, but they have a natural tendency to break the rules, take advantage of weak security, and destroy established protective systems.

When programmers think this way, they become more mindful of the security weaknesses they might unwittingly create in the process of programming.

Programmers who think like hackers automatically think of how they might get around a security protocol or exploit an overlooked bug in an application. They anticipate problems as they already carry in their minds the intention to destroy the things they build. Their understanding of offenses makes them more prepared in creating defenses.

4. Creative Thinking and Willingness to Break Out of the Mold

Hackers are absolutely creative and resourceful. They may appear averse to conventions, but they mostly remain organized in innovative and atypical ways. They ceaselessly develop new ways to achieve their goals. They don't let stumbling blocks discourage them. When they fail, the inherent tenacity gets them going.

The phrase "to break out of the mold" here does not imply that programmers are free to consider breaking laws or adopting black hat methods. The point is that programmers can do more when they don't let conventions or currently prevalent wisdom to dominate their programming. They can solve problems faster when they are not tied to the knowledge they have learned from school or traditional books.

Who says hackers always try to do things illegally? Whenever there's an opportunity for them to do something legal but easier and faster, you can bet that they would. Hackers are always on the lookout for new vulnerabilities they can exploit.

This "exploitation" may not always be illegal. They may have newly discovered a security defect or weakness that is not yet outlawed or considered as a cyber crime. That's why they never stop learning and exploring to find ways that won't entangle them with the law before they resort to felonious options.

5. Having Fun

Programming is not an easy task when you think of it as a job. When all you have in mind is the completion of the program according to the milestones or deadlines, you will most likely suffer from the pressure. You will not enjoy doing the things you do. With hacking, there's usually a sense of enthusiasm and excitement. Hackers don't attempt cracking into someone's accounts with a deadline in mind. They do it to achieve something, sometimes randomly or different from the original goal. They always see opportunities or positive things in whatever they do.

Conclusion

Hackers (the black hat or criminal ones) are not role models. This post does not seek to glorify them.

However, if programmers learn to think the way they do, they can develop more secure applications. They can be more capable of preventing security breaches.

Programmers who have the mentality of a hacker are unlikely
to get tired of working with codes and are generally more creative and persistent.

We Are Born Creative Geniuses But The ‘Education’ System Dumbs Us Down?

“You are more powerful than you know and they fear the day you discover it!”
Truth
NASA — who houses the world’s foremost space program and some of the brightest people on the planet — contacted Dr George Land and Beth Jarman to develop a highly specialized test that would give them the means to effectively measure the creative potential of their rocket scientists and engineers. As a result, the duo came up with an unorthodox test, rooted in the process of divergent thinking; which is the ability to look at a particular problem and propose multiple solutions.
NASA were very pleased with the efficacy of the test results, and so it proved to be a huge success. But for Land and Jarman — who had obviously explored the concept of creativity in great detail whilst devising this test — they decided they wanted to explore and try understand the true source of creativity better. Was it a genetic trait? The result of life experience? Something else??
Because the test Land and Jarman created for NASA was so simple, it could actually be applied to any age group. So they found 1,600 children between the ages of 4 and 5, and decided to measure their progress. What they found shocked them.
Out of the 1,600 kids that took the test, 98% of them scored at genius level! Excited by these incredible findings, the team decided to turn this test into a longitudinal study, and give the same group of children the same test again in 5 years time. Once again their findings were quite shocking, but this time for conversely different reasons. Because these same children, by now in grade school, had rapidly declined to just 30%; a 68% reduction! The same study was conducted again 5 years later on the same group of kids — by now in highschool — and  they had dropped all the way down to just 12%!
Disturbed, but still intrigued by this fascinating study, Land decided to conduct this same test on adults aged 25 and up (with an average age of 31). After numerous studies, what he invariably found, was that less than 2% of all adults scored at genius level. And for those who question the consistency of these results — or think they may be isolated incidences — these results have actually been replicated more than a million times!

WE ARE BEING SYSTEMATICALLY DUMBED DOWN

The implications of this profound study are rather self evident, I would say. We are innately born with the potential of a creative genius, but the moment we enter the school system, we get dramatically dumbed down. The reasoning for this is not too difficult to apprehend; school, as we plainly call it, is an institution that has historically been put in place to ultimately serve the wants of the ruling class, not the common people. Whether it be ancient Sparta, Germanic Prussia, or the more modern industrial American system, education has always served as a “lawful” means of mass indoctrination.
You see, children pose the greatest threat of all to this corrupt system. Their “wild imaginations” are so intense and remarkable, that if left unchecked would result in a creative revolution that will ultimately compromise the ruling class’s proverbial game of monopoly. In order for the so called elite to maintain their lavish life style’s of overt luxury — where they contribute the least but enjoy the most — they understand that children must be dumbed down and brainwashed to accept (and even serve) their rapacious system of artificial scarcity, unending exploitation, and incessant war.

SO WHERE DOES CREATIVITY COME FROM AND IS IT TOO LATE FOR ME TO GET IT BACK?

Creativity is born in the mind; specifically the imagination. The good news is, in spite of the ruling class’s best efforts to degrade our inner genius, the imagination can only be suppressed, it cannot be killed. Because every night when we go to sleep, the imagination gets stimulated. Therefore, your creative potential — your inner genius — is simply sleeping within and just needs to be reawakened and rehabilitated.

HOW CAN I REHABILITATE MY CREATIVITY?

According to George Land, based on all the studies he has conducted and all the brain scans he has looked at, we must learn how to judge less, and look to understand more. We must criticize less, and be curious more. He also cites fear and anxiety as being extremely counter productive.
Some of the greatest ways to deal with these mental debilitations, is to engage in practices like yogameditation, and physical exercise, since they help to alleviate stress and anxiety. They also inspire a process called neurogenesis — which is the creation of new brain cells. Diet also plays an important role in mental strength and overall well being.
The other thing, is to challenge your belief system. It is important to understand that whatever view we currently hold of the world, it is partly — if not wholly — the result of some form of cultural or societal indoctrination; and that regardless of how much we think we know, we are all ignorant in one way or another. We are still solving life’s problems, and we still have much discovering and exploring to do. Learning is a journey without end. So be humble and curious.
We must also develop a keen sensitivity to our external environment. Avoid surrounding yourself with narrow minded people. Stop watching fear mongering news stations, or celebrity gossip. Stop watching television shows, and music videos, that reinforce stupid stereotypes and shallow lifestyles. Your imagination is the most important asset you can cultivate, so you cannot afford to allow it to be infiltrated and shaped by outward forces.
Remember this, and remember it well my friends; this system is built on our imaginations. Money has imaginary value. Government has imaginary authority. And we have imaginary limits. If we want to change things, we must start with the imagination.

Actual Advertising

This Is What Advertising Would Look Like If Corporations Actually Told The Truth For more than a decade now. If you research public relations, psychology, anthropology and mind control almost daily, then you begin to see the world very differently.

Eventually, you begin to apprehend that most are literally under some form of subtle mind control, and that it’s actually quite easy to manipulate the average person’s mind, since they have never been educated on how to identify and protect themselves from these insidious influences.
One such method of deception, commonly employed by propagandists and public relations experts, is the manipulation of our associative memory.
Associative memory is when a particular learning experience becomes intertwined, or associated, with another.
Have you ever heard a song that immediately makes you very sad or happy? Maybe a certain smell brings back a powerful memory? Perhaps when you visit a certain place you have “flash backs?” That’s because your associative memory is at work.
Now, if you are not aware of how this process works, you can easily be deceived, and this is precisely what corporations do through their marketing and advertising schemes.
In an effort to help people see these unethical corporations as they really are, rather than as their propagandist specialists would like us to believe them to be,  some clever images from around the web, and wrote a brief, but concise, exposition on each of them.

MCDONALD’S

McDonald’s is well known for its unhealthy foods.
McDonald’s has also been caught serving expired meatspreading low wages, abusive conditions and union-busting,” and wage theft, poverty-level pay and mistreatment of pregnant workers around the globe. They have also been caught sourcing their meat from multiple companies that abuse and torture animals.
Thus this fat deranged obese clown is much more appropriate for children to see, as opposed to a deceptive average built smiling clown, that fools our associative memory into thinking eating their unhealthy food is fun, exciting and relatively healthy.

KELLOGG’S CEREALS

Aside from the fact that Kellogg’s has spent millions of dollars ensuring GMO foods are not labelled (because they use them in their products), they also use high fructose corn syrup, which is linked to a number of diseases and health problems.
They also had a massive recall on several of their brands in 2010 and 2012 for potentially harmful ingredients, one of them potentially carcinogenic.
In 2010, they were also found to have engaged in deceptive advertising practices, regarding some of the alleged health benefits of their cereals. In 2013, they got caught spreading propaganda and “education” about “white privilege,” which some people consider to be inciting racial division and tension.
But perhaps the most disturbing scandal the company was caught in, is in 2016 when Amnesty International found Kellogg’s palm oil provider Wilmar International were using 8 to 14-year-old children for slave labor and engaging in human trafficking.
Kellogg’s claimed ignorance of the matter, but Amnesty’s Human’s Rights Director suggested this was not true.
Thus these two images, which portray the Truth about the deception, propaganda, slave labor, and unhealthy living associated with the multi billion dollar corporation, are much more accurate than the friendly, happy-go-lucky characters that fool us into believing otherwise.

KFC

Although the original Colonel Sanders may not have envisioned a massive international corporation that fuels the factory farming industry, which is renowned for its unethical treatment and outright torture of innocent animals; that is precisely what is going on today.
What these poor animals experience — in this case, chickens — is beyond disturbing to say the least, and enough to make a narcissist cringe.
KFC is actually owned by parent company Yum! Brands, which also controls other unhealthy fast food stores, including Taco BellPizza Hut, and WingStreet.
Of course, KFC is not alone in fueling the factory farming industry — which the World Health Organization said is linked to cancer — the aforementioned McDonald’s, and the overwhelming majority of fast food giants around the globe do so too — and they should be boycotted as a result.
Thus this psychotic looking colonel is a more appropriate depiction of KFC than the original friendly warm old guy, which gives no indication of the murder and suffering that goes on behind the scenes.
In fact, this is an accurate representation of the entire factory farming industry, which keep us ignorant about where our “food” comes from; which is plain old torture and murder — whether we want to face that harsh Truth or not.

MR CLEAN (PROCTOR & GAMBLE)

Proctor and Gamble, the parent company of Mr. Clean, has a long history of conducting unethical experiments and tests on innocent animals, including cats and dogs.
Like Kellogg’s, P&G sourced their palm oil from Wilmar International who were using small children for slave labor and engaging in human trafficking practices. Like Kellogg’s, the multi billion dollar giant claimed they didn’t know.
The company has also been caught manipulating the market through price fixing, and was fined nearly $1 million in China for false advertising claims.
For a list of companies to shop from that do NOT test their products on animals, please go HERE and HERE

QUAKER STATE OATS (PEPSICO)

One of the lowest possible things anyone can ever do, is deceive innocent children — especially mentally challenged children — and then abuse them through unethical experimentation. And that’s precisely what PepsiCo’s subsidiary, Quaker State Oats did.
In the 1940s and 1950s, researchers from the Quaker State Oats Company, MIT and Harvard University carried out illegal experiments at the Walter E. Fernald State School on mentally challenged children.
Parents were told that their kids would simply be eating Quaker State Oats, but what they were not told is that the food their children were being fed was laced with radioactive calcium and iron as part of a covert experiment.
In 1998 the company paid $1.85 million to their victims.
Their parent company, Pepsico — like Kelloggs mentioned above — spent $2.5 million to prevent genetically modified foods from being labelled because they also use them in their products. The company has also been in the spotlight for contributing to deforestationhuman rights violationspoverty wages, and child labor.
It should also be mentioned that another lawsuit was filed against Quaker Oats for misleading consumers by portraying their foods as being healthy, even though they contained trans fats, which have been linked to heart diseasecancer, and diabetes.
Quaker Oats Company also produce Cap’n Crunch, Life cereal, Quisp, Mother’s Natural Foods, Mr. T cereal, King Vitamin, Aunt Jemima, Rice-A-Roni, Chew granola bars, Honey monster puffs, and Scott’s porage oats, amongst other name brands which should all be boycotted considering this companies inexcusable history.

MONSANTO & BEYER

Sometimes referred to as “the world’s most evil corporation,” Monsanto has a long history of unethical behavior and human rights abuses that make the rest of these companies look like amateurs.
Monsanto was originally founded as a chemical company, and were instrumental in the development of the first ever nuclear weapons in the Manhattan project. They also helped destroy Vietnam with their development of Agent Orange (a deadly herbicide and defoliant chemical) that has resulted in roughly one million Vietnamese with disabilities and deformities, including 100,000 children.
Above is Nguyen Xuan Minh, 4 years old at the time of this picture, at the Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. He has been deformed since birth from what is believed to be the effects of Agent Orange
The U.S. government has also documented significantly higher cases of leukemia, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and different kinds of cancer in veterans that were exposed to the dangerous chemical. Monsanto also caused massive amounts of environmental damage in Vietnam, where more than 3,100,000 hectares of forest were contaminated and destroyed. By any measure of logic, the company should be forced to pay all of its earnings to the people of Vietnam (who suffer to this day) as reparations, and then also forced to shut down.
But this is just the tip of the iceberg for Monsanto.
The company has been caught bribing scientistsforeign government officials, and censoring news stories through Fox News. They’ve been linked to India’s epidemic of farmer’s committing suicidebullying independent farmers, and — despite claiming to distance itself from its controversial past — the company still works with the military and produces white phosphorous according to government documents.
The Truth is this company has such a long history of corruption that, that they should be shut down for good. But that will most likely never happen since the company’s tentacles reach high up into politics, and other circles of power and influence. For example, Michael Taylor — a former vice president of Monsanto — was appointed by Barack Obama (who claimed he would label GMO’s when running for president but never did) as senior adviser to the FDA. If that’s not a conflict of interest, I don’t know what is.
It should also be mentioned that Monsanto has since merged with Bayer, a company with a history of human rights abuses and corruption so bad that they actually rival Monsanto.
Their parent company, IG Farben, used Jewish slave labor during world war 2 and helped produce Zyklon B, which was used to murder hundreds of thousands of Jews. In 1978, the company knowingly released products that contained HIV infected blood, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of people who died from AIDS. They later paid “tens of millions of dollars” to the victims and their families.
In 2001, they indirectly poisoned two dozen children in Peru. In 2006 and 2007, it was discovered that more than 30 countries world wide had their crops infected by an illegal strain of genetically modified crops created by Beyer. In 2011 they were accused of hiding information about the dangers of one of their products by former FDA Commissioner David Kessler. This product (Yaz birth control) has been linked to at least 23 women’s deaths.
As you can see, both of these companies can justifiably be called evil for obvious reasons. Thus an image invoking the mental association of hell is a more authentic representation of their true character.

NESTLE

Nestle is another massive corporation enveloped in human rights abuses and other notable unethical practices.
In the 1970s Nestle began aggressively marketing a new baby formula through the use of propaganda and underhanded policies that made it sound like their product was scientifically proven to be just as good as a mother’s breast milk. They primarily targeted the poor, and also handed out free samples of their “milk” to hospitals. This reportedly resulted in the malnutrition of many babies, and even some deaths.

This policy of propaganda and deceptive marketing, followed by reports of babies deaths emerged again in 2011 in Asia. In 2008 they were once again caught using deceptive marketing, this time for their bottled water products.
In 2005 a major law suit was filed against Nestle (and other major chocolate producers) for using child slave labor in Africa, which continues to this day. They have also admitted to employing slave labor in Asia (although the company claims that this was not intentional). In 2007, Nestle also agreed to pay $9 million for the price fixing of chocolate (along with Cadbury Adams who paid $5.7 million, Hersheys who paid $5.3 million and Mars who paid $3.2 million) in Canada in an unrelated case.
In 2015, it was discovered that Nestle’s permit to draw water from the San Bernadino national forest expired in 1988. Yet in spite of this, the BBC reports that Nestle extracted 36 million gallons of water out the region, which they then bottled at an astronomical profit. If that’s not infuriating enough, the company was doing this during a 5 year major drought and water crisis, even though the civilian population were forced to cut back on their water usage. A group of environmental organizations filed a law suit against Nestle for this.
The company also made news headlines in 2013, when their CEO proclaimed access to water should not be a human right on camera. Additionally, according to The National“At the World Water Forum in the Netherlands in 2000, Nestlé and other corporations with a financial interest in controlling the world’s drinking water succeeded in having access to it officially downgraded from a ‘right’ to a mere ‘need’.”

APPLE

Apple is one of the most popular and innovative companies on the planet. They make some incredible gadgets, but when it comes to human rights, Apple is shamefully uninnovative.
In 2006, The Mail on Sunday did an undercover investigation into working conditions in China and discovered what could justifiably be called human rights abuses. The company made workers put in shifts of 12 hours a day (some of them 15 hours) for just £27 – £54 a month (they were also forced to live on site and pay for their own food, which came out of their paycheck).
The key corporation employed by Apple, is Foxconn, a Chinese multinational electronics company with a horrible reputation for its abuse of workers (including physically abusing them), along with child labor, and has been referred to as both a “sweat shop” and a “labor camp“. The company gained international recognition after more than a dozen of their workers committed suicide in 2010 by jumping from the building due to harsh working conditions. In 2012 150 workers threatened to commit suicide if working conditions were not improved. The company has since placed “suicide prevention” nets around its facilities to prevent this from happening, and claimed they would also increase wages.
Apple, however, is just one of Foxconn’s clients. The company also manufactures other major products, including BlackBerry, Nintendo, Nokia, PlayStation, Xbox, and Amazon Kindle. Unfortunately most of us are guilty of purchasing these products, including myself, but that doesn’t make it okay or absolve us of personal responsibility.
It should also be mentioned that a key mineral that has been used in Apple’s iPhone is coltan, which is mostly found in the Democratic Republic of Congo — one of the richest pieces of land on the planet — yet has some of the poorest people due to foreign exploitation. The mining of this mineral is often done by child labor. Since the public has become more aware of this, Apple has claimed they will no longer source from the DRC.
In 2013, leaked NSA documents showed that the spy agency has access to Apple’s user’s private data, including text messages, photos, personal location, microphone, and camera. Facebook, Google, Dropbox, Yahoo, Microsoft, and AOL were included, and all companies denied knowing about it.

SO HOW CAN WE HELP TO STOP THIS?

The short answer to that question, is vote with your wallet. All of us need to understand that every time we make a purchase, we are unconsciously making a choice about the type of world we would like to live in. When we give our cash to corporations that abuse innocent animals and experiment on them, whether we consciously realize it or not, we are choosing to support that practice and live in a world where animal experimentation and abuse is considered normal. When we eat a chocolate, or buy a cell phone from a company that uses child labor, whether we are consciously aware of it or not, we are choosing to support that inexcusable practice.
If we want to do our part in helping to create a better world, then we need to obviously stop giving our hard earned money to companies and corporations that do not align with our code of ethics and integrity. Would you give your money to an animal abuser or a human trafficker and encourage them to continue what they are doing? So then why give your money to corporations that employ these types of practices?
These companies of course, will always claim that they don’t know this behavior is going on. But when you seek out the absolute cheapest labor you can possibly find on the planet, of course abuses of this nature will go on, it’s really not rocket science. These massive multi billion dollar corporations could easily raise wages and company standards but their primary concern is in making a profit, not making the world a better place. They could still be highly successful competitive corporations that are multi million dollar enterprises, who invest much of their pay into human rights, animal rights, and making the world a better place, but they simply do not care about this, and so I do not believe them when they claim ignorance on these wrong doings. And I do not believe we should be rewarding companies that conduct themselves in this shameful and pathetic manner.
Instead we need to reward ethical companies and support them, which will also encourage the other companies to get their asses in line with ethical proceedings. Sure, it might cost a bit more, and maybe it will mean we have to research the companies we buy products from, and perhaps it will even inconvenience us a little bit, but at least we will have a clean conscience when we look in the mirror. At least we will know we aren’t helping to contribute to the inexcusable and preventable suffering that’s going on all around us on this planet, and I don’t know about you, but for me self approval is much more important than saving a few bucks. Knowing we are actually helping to create positive change, rather than contributing to an unjust system automatically gives our lives some positive meaning and purpose.
I am also aware of the argument that it gives the poor people in these regions an opportunity to at least make some money, but if we are truly concerned with raising their standard of living there are much better ways to do so, such as legitimate non profit organizations. We should not be supporting this sick system, we should be looking for ways to create a better one, while also starving it of our support.

It should also be mentioned that this list is just the tip of the iceberg obviously, and these companies are just a few of many that engage in this type of unethical behavior that is rooted in this Matrix like system.  we need to take personal responsibility for the choices we make when buying consumer goods or foods, and stop supporting companies that engage in unethical practices and instead start supporting the ones that strive to embody integrity.
This starts first by educating ourselves and then educating others, and this blog is a good place for people to start their journey to disillusionment.
Please help me spread this information, awareness is always the first step to creating change.
